How to choose the right glasses for your face shape

We are all born with unique face shapes. While this helps define us, it can sometimes make choosing the right glasses challenging. Here are some tips to help you select the proper eyewear for your face shape.

Petite - Look for glasses that are petite and not just small

If you have a petite face shape, you may have previously purchased small or even kid’s eyewear. Look for glasses and frames that aren’t just small; they are designed to be petite. They are proportional to petite faces and take into account bone structure so that the frames fit your face correctly.
Petite frames can make a massive difference to your overall look. A petite frame will have a sophisticated style, colours, and shape of a mature person. Young adults will want to purchase a petite frame that creates a professional look for job interviews and meeting new people.

Plus – Look for eyewear that offers nose pads and fit cheeks properly

If you have a round face shape, it can be hard to find glasses that fit correctly. When you are looking for eyewear, remember that the end piece should sweep away from the side of the face to avoid dents and suntan lines, and the frames should have nose pads so that the frame has clearance from the sides of your cheeks.
Plus size frames can be stylish too. Look for a cat-eye shape and some lift or features that draw the eye up and accentuate the cheekbones. As an added bonus, this has a slimming and anti-aging effect.

Global – Look for glasses that fit the contours of your face

Depending on your culture, you may have high cheekbones, low cheekbones, and a variety of other fitting challenges, such as, you may need a design that works well with high prescriptions. Many designers now carry a global fit to meet the needs of different face shapes. Don’t settle for a one size fits all approach.

Special Needs – Look for a frame that sits appropriately on the face

If you or someone you care about has an asymmetrical face shape, it is essential to find glasses that allow for the frame to sit properly on the face.
A recent client of ours had a unique situation. There was no cartilage between the ear and the head and, therefore, no gap for the frames to fit into. We used a special skull temple design on a frame to wrap it around rather than curve behind the ear of our client, and they couldn’t be happier.
